Introduction

After working with a few models recently it seemed appropriate to look at this area again.  In the past, we had interviewed Safia Pixie, another young and petite model.  What drew me to Thea, was the positive endorsements from professionals and her work.  If you look at her feed you will see the type of work she throws herself in to.

Through many chats sessions, we discussed life in general and tried to work out a date for a face to face meeting.   Thea was professional and prompt in her attitude which really helped.  So without further ado, here we go.

About you

Tell us a little about yourself, where you grew up, what life was like.

“I was born in High Wycombe, not the best of places in the world but I will always call it my home. My family isn’t rich but we all grow up living all in the same village so we always had each other when times got hard. During my teen years, I did get myself in a little bit of trouble.  By hanging around with people I shouldn’t have been with, but that all changed on my 16th birthday. I decided enough was enough and I needed to move out of my parents home to find my own home. Which I did and then I moved up to Leicestershire and managed to get myself a part-time job in a pub and my very own little flat.”

Tell us about the people who have influenced you in life.

“My Great Grandmother (aka Nan), she 93 years old and one of my biggest inspirations. She’s never Doubted me and has always been like a best friend. If She didn’t give me the confidence I have now I’m not too sure where I would be. Another person who has influenced my life is Katie Price (I know a lot of people would sigh about that).  But she is incredible. Yeah, she may get a lot of bad press about her but she does a lot for her family and has a lot of businesses as well as modelling.”

What is your earliest memory of photography?

“My first earliest memory of photography was on a school trip to Belgium in 2007 where we went to visit the world war 2 trenches. I was completely mesmerized by everything around me. I had 2 little film camera’s, I was that clicker happy I filled up both camera’s up within 3 hours.”

What is your ideal type of photographer (taking your picture)?

“I can’t really say what my ideal photographer would be because everyone has to start off somewhere. One day I could be working with a complete newbie and when they show me the images off the back of a camera they could be just as amazing as someone who has been doing it for a while. But if I had to choose it would be a photographer with confidence.  Because there’s nothing more awkward than having a photographer who doesn’t talk.”

What is your favourite image of yourself?

“All my work I do is my favourite as they are all different.  But if I had to choose it would be the Creative makeup – Golden Pinpoint with Dorota make up artist.  Also Brian from Studio 2212. It was my first time working with Dorota and my first time ever holding a creative makeup event with 11 other photographers.”

You have seen personally tragedy, what is your advice for others?

“It’s hard when you lose someone so close but you have to just pick yourself up, keep your chin held high and keep on owning it. That person will always be watching down on you and you will never forget them.”

Experience

How did you get into modelling?

“One of my friends started photography and they asked me to get in front of the camera do some portraits of them. After Jason sent them off for a club competition he got a lot of excellent feedback, a few of them were asking if I could model for them and that’s how I ended up here really 5 years down the line and I’m still going strong.”

What was one of the most rewarding experiences?

“Getting the chance to work all over the country, even if it’s on the train you still get a quick glimpse of something interesting.”

Do you have a favourite accessory, an item of clothing or style?

“My PJ’s they describe me perfectly (I don’t do early mornings) anyone who knows me knows I love my sleep.  I do not like having to get up at 3 am on a Sunday morning :(. Plus the other reason is the pyjamas are comfy.”

Is there anyone you still want to work with?

“There are loads of people I would love to work with but it’s just finding the time to fly abroad, which I hope to do in the new year.”

What does the future hold for Thea?

“Loads, Bigger and better than 2017, I’m going to start looking at touring abroad and doing more creative makeup events around the country. Along with working with other creatives. Also, I hope to start driving soon, so keep a watch out on the roads. ”

“Brain surgeon, now there’s something you wouldn’t have thought I would say.”

What is the worst lie you ever told someone?

“When I was 13 I was having a sleepover with one of my friends, I stole a fag from my mum and smoked it for the first time. I lit it up next to my bed and smoked it out my bedroom window By the time I had finished it, I noticed my bed had caught fire. I quickly put it out with some water as it wasn’t big but it still caught on fire, I then ran into my mum’s room woke her up and blamed a candle next to my bed. She wasn’t happy with me but from this day she still doesn’t know the truth, I think she would kill me if she did. But it’s a very big lesson learnt never some indoors and never steal off someone and lie about it.”

What is the best way to fight poverty?

“It all comes down to politics, I’m not really a big fan of it but if they stopped making so many cuts here and there and listened to what people had to say I guess we could make a start of making a better life.”

Shoes or handbags?

“Shoes, I am much of a tomboy when I’m not modelling.  I spend so much money on trainers”

Do unicorns exist?

“I don’t believe unicorns exist but if you asked me if fairies or angels exist then I’m pretty sure they do.”

What is the answer to life the universe and everything?

“I don’t believe there is an answer to everything, you just have to follow the right path you think is right for you. We all make mistakes and we all learn from them.”

The Conclusion

Interviewing Thea Rose - Thea during makeup preparation with DorotaMUA
Thea during makeup preparation with DorotaMUA

It was a great experience to meet Thea after so many Facebook chats.  Arranging this around her makeup preparation for the Halloween night was useful too.  This allowed me to catch Dorota (the makeup artist) and see them both in their natural environment.  Thea was very open in her discussion and interview, especially sharing with you all her personal situation.

There are so many great photographs of her, which proves her ability and personality.  Keep an eye out for the special studio sessions. alongside Dorota you are guaranteed amazing photos of her unique ideas and makeup wizardry.

Do not forget to get in touch with her and book a session, alternatively, she often appears at Studio 2212 in Lincoln.
