What I’ve been watching – a french photographer

I know, it’s been a while and there has been a lack of communication from me. But after watching something recently, it really made me think about writing a few short pieces like this.

Artists

There have been so many times I’ve spoken to photographers and been amazed at their work. The people have been amazing and became a monumental step in my life. However, at some point in the last few years, the situation changed when I truly realised what an artist is.

Now, I don’t want to write another article describing who or what an artist is. All I need you to understand is there are artists out there, but some make you stand up in awe, they may motivate or make you cry. Whether it’s the importance of their work that makes you consider your goals, your motivation or the fact you just need to smile because of its beauty. Maybe it’s the way they created the image with a technique or technology that had some personal meaning to you. Some of these artists showcase truly amazing work, and some of them embody purpose and meaning.

Some people have the power to transcend communities, language, politics, law and disparities with their photography. They are the few for sure, and I’m so lucky I came across this artist. Maybe you have seen his work in cities around the world or his Instagram feed, anyway, carry on reading to find out.

J.R.

One lazy Saturday evening, I was scrolling through various options of films to watch and realised how much I liked well-made documentaries. Recently, one of these made me message a friend to ask if he had seen the same film (as it was about where he lived). I think it’s nice that the world of cinema can have this effect on you.

So there I was contemplating my film options and I thought I really should watch this documentary, as it was about a French photographer called J.R. Obviously, with my current interest in all things French, it seemed to make sense for me to watch it!

The title of this work is called Paper & Glue, and I honestly believe it’s the most important piece of photo artistry I have ever seen. The sheer scale and breadth of the artist’s experiences are amazing, as the places, he visits and doing this all with such honourable intentions. J.R. still manages to show his personality through his work, and, he does this all with such pride and independence from the world of co-operations. He has certainly left an after effect on me, so much so that I’ve considered writing to interview him!

I would prefer not to give away details of his projects and leave you to see for yourself. All I know is you need to check him out if you don’t know of him already. He is called J.R. I’m putting links below, so get clicking now and support his work.
